Analysis of typeface

Since having previously established a vintage/italic style for my type, I started to download various typefaces that fit in with the criteria I had specified. I then put them onto illustrator and started to play around with the sizing ,spacing and tracking also displaying the texts in various forms, for example adding curvature. After experimenting I came to a conclusion and have decided to lay my text in a standard straight form and I will use the typeface called “Little Ricky” as I feel it embodies the vintage and authentic style I want to present the most effectively.

Cut out tutorial

In my workshop I have been experimenting with photoshop familiarising myself with the pen, convert point and masking tools. Using the tools I was able to separate the sculpture from the background , then transferring it over to Indesign saving it as a BMP file to create a flexible vector graphic. I then played around with the opacity tool, re-scaled and duplicated the graphic, placing the raster graphic alongside to compare quality.

Corporate identity package

For this brief I will be designing a full corporate identity package creating a logo and showcasing the designs on either a mockup brochure or website. The company I have chose to brand is “Le Barbe Magnifique” a high end continental barbers. My first point of call was a general research and analysis into logos and colour schemes used on barbering logos to gain a general consensus of what is most commonly present. I also started to look at mens beard products looking into the aesthetics and I found that the retro/vintage style used was most appealing to me and was a popular choice of style on the products. As for barber logos the majority of them incorporate barbering accessories such as scissors, combs and shaving blades as the focus point, I will most likely include aspects of this onto my logo but will hope to give it a unique look. The typefaces accompanying the logos are in various styles but an italic/vintage style typeface is what I’m leaning towards as I think it will correspond well with the ‘Le Barbe Magnifique’ text. Finally I found circle shaped logos where the most favoured , this is something I will consider when shaping my logo.
